Cafe Du Ciel

For the best view in town, visit Cafe Du Ciel. It's on the 51st floor of Nagoya station tower. To get there, you need to go to Towers dining mall on the 12th floor and then transfer to a 2nd elevator. The cafe has a great view and serves pretty good coffee, cakes and also belgian waffles.

Cova

This coffee bar is part of a Milanese chain. They have waiter service, great coffee and excellent cakes. On Midland Square, 2nd floor. Around 1300-1500yen for the coffee and cake set.

Officina De Cesari

This is a spacious old style Italian coffee bar with pretty good Italian cakes. It's in the Osu shopping arcade on the southern, less busy, covered street. They also have a Pizzeria and Trattoria.

Wolfgang Puck (052-957-5755)

Really nice american style cakes, including Mississippi Mud Pie, and New York cheesecake. The coffee and cake set costs 1000yen.
Located on the 10th floor of the Aichi Arts Center, in Sakae, right next to Oasis 21.
It's open from 11:00-23:00 everyday except Mondays and National Holidays (when the whole arts center is closed)

Pierre Marcolini- Chocolatier

If you like chocolate, this is the place to go. In addition to the chocolate shop they have a cafe where you can enjoy hot chocolate, chocolate cakes and chocolate ice cream. In the basement of Midland Square.

Near Fushimi station, inside the Hilton hotel. The cakes are really good quality and you get free coffee/tea refills from the waiters. Relaxing atmosphere. The coffee and cake set costs 1300yen.

A small cafe and specialist cake shop- one of the few places in Nagoya that actually serves carrot cake. They can also make large cakes to order. At Kakuouzan. website


Fortnum and Mason

If you want an English afternoon tea, this is the place to go. Expect to pay a bit more for the privilege. They also have a wide range of cakes and tarts. Two outlets: One is on the first floor of LA CHIC center in the middle of Sakae.

Saru Cafe Aoi

A relaxed coffee shop and cafe, just to the west of Chikusa station. It has 4 internet access points, and an outdoor sitting area for the summer. Serves a variety of meals and drinks. (Jennifer H.)

Boyd's Coffee


There are 2 Boyd's in Nagoya, but I'd recommend the one next to the Digital Mall in Osu. It is quite possibly the most comfortable coffee shop in Nagoya- every seat is an armchair and there's a fire to keep you warm in the winter.

Chain Coffee Shops 


Starbucks- many locations, especially in Sakae. You can get a refill of any blend coffee for 100 yen. Also, if you ever find yourself stuck on the platform at Nagoya station with a caffeine craving, you can go to the Starbuck's inside the barriers. it is at the South platform exit.

Tully's- various locations.

Doutor- many locations. Slightly cheaper.

Komeda- Japanese chain.

Excelsior- various locations.


Chain Cake/Ice cream Shops


Mr Donut- a very popular Japanese donut shop, which offers free coffee refills.

Krispy Kreme- they recently opened their first store in Nagoya, based inside Takashimaya. It's very popular so expect a long wait!

Baskin Robbins- various outlets across the city. The most central is in Oasis 21, in the middle of Sakae. Good place for a cheap sundae.

Haagen Dazs- There is one shop, located in the underground mall near Nagoya station. It is quite small and doesn't have a very large selection.

Dunkin Donuts- are no longer operating in Japan.
